Zurich-based designer Hans Knuchel calls himself a “pictorial engineer”: his works examine optical phenomena and question our viewing habits. For the museum, he will be realizing a spatial installation in the Toni Areal entrance hall that displays the moiré effect. The work results from superimposing two identical structures involving illusions of brightness. It unfolds its full effect for viewers when they move and thereby produces and enables the experience of dramatic visual changes.
