The art of the piano
Born in Santiago de Cuba, pianist David Virelles grew up in a musical home. Although classically trained at the conservatory, he was surrounded by many musical genres in Santiago’s culturally diverse environment. In 2009, Virelles moved to New York City, where he established himself as one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation. He has collaborated with artists such as Henry Threadgill, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Turner, Paul Motian and Milford Graves.
