Pop-up

The face is the most direct means of human communication. Even before we learn to read, we can already recognize facial expressions, emotions, and identities. No other motif in poster design can compare with the appeal of the human face. Between the anonymous countenance and the individual portrait, there exist a wide range of graphic possibilities. Faces can be drawn, painted, collaged, or photographed. They may be distorted, fragmented, or reduced. Some depictions represent a certain type, while others portray specific individuals, whether recognizable or abstracted. What they share is the ability to grab our attention and raise questions about identity, memory, and imagination.
