Project documentation
In the open workshop in the exhibition space, visitors were able to create their own designs using a variety of materials. A hands-on object collection offered the opportunity to experience materials through the senses and grew over the course of the exhibition. Visitors were invited to contribute their own interesting material samples.
The hands-on space radiated out into the entire exhibition, where there were objects and material samples to touch at many stations. The public was able to exchange ideas with material experts and design professionals during material consultations and workshops. During the exhibition, around 1800 small illustrative models for new product ideas were created in the open workshop and displayed on the shelves of the staircase positioned centrally in the exhibition. With the exhibition Endstation Meer? The Plastic Waste Project launched the concept of integrated mediation in 2012, which was also used in the exhibitions Do It Yourself Design (2015), Designstudio: Processes (2017/18), Social Design (2018) and Designlabor: Material and Technology. The public is invited to participate in the content and design of the exhibitions in a variety of ways, for example by means of offers such as the Hands-on-Space, which are permanently present in the exhibition space and whose results constantly change the exhibition during its duration. This decidedly participatory exhibition practice is being continuously developed at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
