David, Mona Lisa and Co. – Art Quotes in the Posters

9.1. – 13.2.2024

Images from art history have a firm place in the collective memory. Designers therefore like to use art quotations to catch the eye of passers-by. Art always embodies material and cultural prosperity and is particularly suitable for ensnaring consumers: Its aura ennobles any commercial intention. Michelangelo’s David and Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa are among the most frequently quoted works. Whether reproduced unchanged or reinterpreted, these appropriations demonstrate the extent to which individual artistic creations are considered common cultural property. A selection of such posters can be viewed in the vestibule on the 1st floor on Ausstellungsstrasse.
