Juli Gudehus – In the Beginnings was … the Sign!

Digital space is teeming with icons, emojis, and logos. Communication is increasingly shaped by pictograms. This also applies to designer Juli Gudehus, who has translated the biblical story of creation into a contemporary adaptation of hieroglyphic writing. But just as the Bible allows scope for interpretation, so icons and symbols are not universally understandable and vary depending on culture and the individual lifeworld. Gudehus’ amusing version of Genesis, however, presents an approach to the signs of our time that is both cunning and poetic.
