Peter Scholl — Type & Image
After apprenticing as a positive retoucher and a course of advanced training in typography at the École Estienne in Paris, Peter Scholl (b. 1946, Biel) attended courses with Hans-Rudolf Lutz at the F+F School for Art and Design in Zurich. He founded his own studio in 1975, quickly making a name for himself in poster and book design. Scholl has produced remarkable poster series, for example for the Théâtre de Vevey, the Musée Suisse de l’appareil photographique, the Filmpodium Zürich, and, since 2001, the Théâtre Oriental–Vevey. He elegantly blends exuberant typography with photography, using bright and unexpected color schemes and elaborate screenprinting techniques. Now, the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is showing a selection of 14 posters of Scholl on the vestibule wall at Ausstellungsstrasse.
