Unmistakable reduction, inexhaustible variation: Pierre Mendell’s innovative posters shaped Munich’s cityscape for years. Formally condensed into pictograms, compressed into essential messages, these works are immediately comprehensible. And yet this first glance is deceptive: Ambiguities, irritations and surprising reinterpretations often turn the supposedly universal pictorial symbols into poetic puzzles and invite reflection and re-examination.
