Repair Revolution!
In our daily lives, things break all the time. Instead of repairing them, we often buy a replacement. This results in growing mountains of garbage and an increasing scarcity of resources that have global repercussions. How well an object can be repaired is already determined in the design process. In mechanical engineering, considerations regarding maintenance and replacement parts are an integral part of the design, which is often not the case with product design and architecture. But that can change! Repairing is no longer merely a last resort but an important cultural, social, and economic practice that offers an alternative to our throwaway society. The exhibition Repair Revolution! presents the vision of a repair society and the role that design can play in getting there.
The public is invited to become active in the exhibition itself: An open workshop in the middle of the room offers suggestions and material for creatively patching and darning textiles. At the same time, it is a platform for exchanging information about recommended repair places in Zurich. On special dates, professionals repair in the museum.
