The Museum of Design Zurich will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025. The museum and the Swiss National Bank have been collaborating for 25 years on poster exhibitions in the bank's display windows. To mark this double anniversary, the 68th exhibition is dedicated to cultural anniversary posters from Switzerland.
The poster for the Werkbund anniversary plays with concrete blocks as a reference to New Building, while the poster for the Dada anniversary in 2016 merges the words Dada and Gaga. For less established cultural institutions, even young anniversaries are a reason to celebrate, as is the case for the Rote Fabrik, which emerged from the youth movement of the 1980s. In the anniversary poster for its 30th anniversary, geometric elements slowly form the image of the factory in a manner analogous to a tangram puzzle, illustrating the tough road to recognition. With ever-changing design approaches, the anniversary posters succeed in visualizing the history and character of the celebrated institutions and cultural personalities.
