WROP – Demian Conrad

Abstrakte Kunst mit roten, blauen und weissen Streifen.

WROP, the pithy acronym for Water Random Offset Printing, is the method used by Swiss designer Demian Conrad to sound out the possibilities of traditional printing techniques. His modified offset printing press permits the orchestrated deployment of a water jet at various points in the printing process. This gives rise to posters that are all unique, despite their obvious affinity in design.

What Demian Conrad has done is to eliminate the fluid boundaries separating art and design, craftsmanship and industrial process. Thus he has built on similar artistic experiments of the 1960s and 1970s. The subtle color scales resulting from the interplay of control and chance make for a captivating series of posters that recall both landscapes and the expressive gestures of abstract painting.

The north wall in the entrance hall of the Toni-Areal displays 20 works.
