About the project

Design Kids Club #1 was all about textiles, textile products and their design. There are hundreds of cool fabrics in the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. They are used to make clothes, furniture, carpets, rucksacks, curtains, hammocks, parachutes and much more.

Inspired by the exhibits in the permanent exhibition Collection Highlights and the exhibition Wild Thing - Fashion Scene Switzerland (11.12. 2020 - 24.5.2021), the children created their own designs, drew, painted and experimented with techniques such as stamp printing, wax batik and embroidery. The samples were turned into small personal pattern books and various products made from fabric.

They also looked for objects in the exhibitions that they found particularly interesting in the museum and documented their research and selection with photos using colored stencils: green appealed, red rather not.

In addition to the project lessons for secondary school pupils at Limmat School, the "Design Kids Club" format was also launched in the first year of the "Baustelle" project. It was aimed at primary school pupils, but was also open to other children from the neighborhood. In a total of 13 editions, insights and experiences were gathered in order to further sharpen the profile of design education at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. They will lead to the conception of a new permanent exhibition of the collections, which will be opened in the Toni-Areal in 2025 to mark the 150th anniversary of the museum.
