Exhibition DesignScouts Schaufenster: jung love Züri

30 June, 2024

With DesignScouts Schaufenster, the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich launched a series of shop window exhibitions in the neighborhood as part of the Museumjung participation project. About the project

With Collection Insights - Seven Perspectives (26.1. - 1.12.2024), the museum placed different perspectives on its collections at the center of an exhibition for the first time. One of the seven sub-exhibitions was curated by the Museumjung youth collective. Interested schoolchildren aged between 9 and 15 developed an exhibition concept in participatory processes that looks at Zurich's design from a young perspective. Jugendkollektiv: jung love Züri took the audience on a journey through the young city and made suggestions on how the collections could be expanded.

"We brainstormed the question: What do we associate with our city? Then we looked in the collection archives to see which objects fit in with our everyday lives in Zurich. We didn't find some cool brands and current products there, so we're presenting them here." (Youth collective)

Each month, a temporary display case in the exhibition was filled with a new object that the young curators wanted to become part of the collections. The respective object of the month was posted on the museum's Instagram account and - where possible - was echoed in small window displays in the neighborhood. The object of the month for June was the cardboard cup for Eisvogel Glace from Zentrale für Gutes, designed by Piär Amrein.

The jung love Züri concept was developed in the Youth Collective 1 course. Youth Collective 2 produced a film that is projected in large format in the exhibition. Pupils in project class #13: Young brands supported the selection of current products. The collection curators' decision on whether or not to include the young proposals will be incorporated into the Youth Collective: Collecting Young concept, which will be implemented in 2025 as part of the new permanent exhibition of the collections in the Toni-Areal.

Museumjung
