Project documentation
The Museumjung project was regularly presented on the exhibition wall in the vestibule of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. GuhlSchool showed the results of the courses Looking and Collecting: Photography is more than a photo and Collecting photographically: Designing Public Space, which took place as part of the Museum Week Willy Guhl: young and today.

In the second year of the project, the focus was on the work and ideas of Swiss design pioneer Willy Guhl. Under the label "GuhlSchool", various design and cultural techniques were used to explore Guhl's core themes. They ranged from material experiments and furniture construction to photographic field research in public spaces. The collection of things and images as a source of knowledge for design was also addressed.
Willy Guhl has dealt intensively with the design of usable and appealing street furniture and created an extensive photo documentation. The students took up the topic of his so-called bench collection and questioned it from their perspective: How can photography be understood and used as a tool for research and collection?
What does street furniture look like today? How should public space be designed from the perspective of young experts? What needs do children and young people have in public spaces and what is needed there to meet these needs? All these questions resulted in a manifesto that could be supplemented by the museum audience.
After the presentation in the vestibule, Museumjung: GuhlSchool was exhibited from June 2 to July 21, 2023 in an adapted form under the title DesignScouts Schaufenster: Sitzen im Quartier in the window of the Swiss Design Embassy at Josefstrasse 115. The experience and knowledge gained from the "GuhlSchool" was used to further sharpen the profile of design education at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
