Project documentation
The second year of the project ran in the run-up to an exhibition on the Swiss design pioneer Willy Guhl under the label "GuhlSchool". In this context, the Limmat School and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich collaborated to organize the museum week Willy Guhl: young and today.

Together with designers and teachers, the pupils investigated the extent to which Guhl's ideas and approaches can also be interesting and relevant for young people today.
As part of the parallel Design Kids Club #6: Hands on!, children experimented with numerous materials and dexterity skills and tested their suitability for a planned interactive area in the exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with Your Hands (December 9, 2022 - March 26, 2023). The Design Kids chose to work with strings and ropes.
For the museum week, a test setting was set up in which all kindergarten and primary school pupils - as well as other interested parties who dropped by the studio - could record short videos of their hands knotting, weaving or knotting.
The ideas and insights resulting from this prototype were immediately put into practice at the "Thinking" station in the Guhl exhibition. The audience was invited to observe their own hands, to act in a way that was not controlled by their heads and to become aware of their own "thinking with their hands" by grasping ropes and cords.
The experience gained in the "GuhlSchool" was used to further sharpen the profile of design education at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. They will lead to the conception of a new permanent exhibition of the collections, which will open in the Toni-Areal in 2025 to mark the 150th anniversary of the museum.
