About the project

The museum week was dedicated to Willy Guhl's work as a teacher: Guhl taught at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts (now ZHdK) for around forty years and shaped and influenced the interior architecture and product design courses with his experimental, research-based way of working in practice. Together with designers and teachers, the students used all their senses to investigate the extent to which Willy Guhl's ideas and approaches - his characteristic "thinking with your hands" - can also be interesting and relevant for young people today.

Two kindergarten and six primary school classes were involved, for and with whom a weekly course was developed, each with a different thematic focus and design techniques. There were also hands-on stations that could be visited by all the children. They were also open to the museum team, teachers and other interested parties.

The experiences and insights gained during the Museum Week and the parallel Design Kids Club #6: Hands on! were used to further sharpen the profile of design education at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. At the same time, they were directly implemented in the development of theinteractive"Thinking" area in the exhibition Willy Guhl - Thinking with Your Hands (9 December 2022 - 26 March 2023) and in the planning of the education program.

Museumjung
