Museumjung is a three-year cooperation project between the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich and the neighboring Limmat School. It brings young perspectives into everyday museum life and connects the museum with the neighborhood community.
The focus is on the cultural heritage preserved in the collections, exploring the specific potential of design mediation as well as museological and strategic issues. Museumjung is intended to act as an incubator that can intensify and accelerate the museum's process of change towards cultural participation, participatory exhibition practice and the further development of innovative design education.
Museumjung is divided into three project phases with internal school and public sub-projects - including project lessons, museum week, Design Kids Club, youth collective and activities in the neighborhood: The first phase, "Building Site", serves to establish sustainable cooperation structures. The second phase, "GuhlSchool", explores the potential of design education based on the ideas of Swiss design pioneer Willy Guhl. In the final phase, "DesignScouts", the students will develop elements of a new permanent exhibition of the collections, which will be opened in the Toni-Areal in 2025 to mark the 150th anniversary of the museum.
A first highlight and prototype for 2025 is jung love Züri, one of the sub-exhibitions in Collection Insights - Seven Perspectives (26.1. - 1.12.2024) curated by the Museumjung youth collective.
