About the project

From reality to photography and back again explored the diverse possibilities of interpretation through the medium of photography. The camera was used as a tool to train one's own perception, to observe more closely and to create.

The course aimed to sensitize the students both to the world around them and to the medium of photography. The students dealt with questions about how they can present themselves through photography, and which stories and stereotypes are created or reproduced as a result. Optical tricks and props were also used to stage the counterparts of those who were photographed.

They explored what statements photographic reality can make about us and our surroundings. In the course, the students discussed the spectrum of possibilities of photography, came up against its limits and discussed how these limits can be articulated.

Other photography courses included Project Lesson #1: FotoScouts, the projects Looking and Collecting: Photography is More than a Photo and Collecting Photographically: Designing Public Space as part of Museum Week, as well as Design Kids Club #2: Photographing Things. The experiences and insights gained were collected in order to further sharpen the profile of design education at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. They will lead to the conception of a new permanent exhibition of the collections, which will open in the Toni-Areal in 2025 to mark the museum's 150th anniversary.

Museumjung
