About the project

In New Homes, students explored the topic of how they would like to live and furnish their own homes. The starting point for their research was the Ideal Living exhibition, a journey through 100 years of Swiss living culture, and the Swiss Design Lounge, where old and new design icons can be tried out. The focus was on the following questions: Which designs best meet your personal needs? What is the design attitude behind the objects you have selected?

Each week, the team looked at a piece of furniture from different angles: They were asked about function, form and material, sustainability or production processes. The young design researchers analyzed the furniture in terms of suitable dimensions. What would be an ideal size? Does that even exist? Their investigations were supplemented by an expert discussion with product designer Damian Fopp.

Then they sketched their own furniture designs and visualized them with presentation models. These models were used to create a kit with instructions and materials for younger classmates to copy. Finally, the designs were drawn 1:1 on paper and the students staged themselves in front of them.

Museumjung
