About the project

In With our backs to the room, the initial focus was on getting to know the museum collections and the topics "What is design?" and "What can design processes look like?". In the exhibition 6 Rooms x 6 Positions, the students explored the question of which stories the exhibited interiors tell and which concept of design is recognizable behind each position.

They then created backgrounds for the online lessons. The Museumjung project started during the Covid pandemic. In times of pandemic, your own room is both a retreat and a showroom. In Zoom sessions, the very private becomes public. Based on photographs of the empty rooms in the 6 Rooms x 6 Positions exhibition, the students created collages with items from the collection and their own drawings to create their visions of living in various scenarios, from hall living to tiny houses. How do you show yourself in your room? What do you not show? Or do you show something completely different?

The project lesson With your back to the room was carried out with several classes. It also served as a test phase for the new online Education offering at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, which was launched due to the pandemic.

Museumjung
