Tristesse, the studio of Julian Bauer, Gregor Brändli, Lucian Kunz, and Ieva Zuklyte, unites the disciplines of graphic design, film, photography, and animation. A maximalist style with concise forms and expressive colors, along with a direct, deliberately bold visual language, are characteristic of the designers’ projects. Storytelling forms the core of their practice, in which they rely on creating friction between content and form. This results in positive irritations and humorous messages that shape their unmistakable creations and lend a playful lightness to their design concepts for the cultural scene.
