The Assassin’s Creed series, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, brings to life intricate historical reconstructions including towns, monuments and civilisations. It is a leap into History for millions of players around the world. This conference will highlight some of the development processes undertaken by the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey team to give the game a sense of historical authenticity. It will explore the complex relationship between research, historical references, technological conventions, and game design parameters as it proposes a deep dive into the creative framework. This lecture retraces the steps to reconstruct a credible and immersive Ancient Greek experience, where digital technology, gameplay interaction and historical re-enactment come together as one.
